PE at Studfall Junior Academy

School ethos incorporating OFTED's 3 pillars of progression

Hello, my name is Miss Gibbons and I am the lead for PE at Studfall Junior Academy.

Intent Statement:

To ensure that we succeed…

Our PE curriculum journey offers a broad and balanced PE curriculum in all year groups that supports and promotes children's positive well-being for every child. At Studfall, we nurture the children’s physical development, through a progressive PE curriculum which enables children to learn transferable skills that they can use in wider life and competitions.

Physical education offers a variety of positive benefits for children. At Studfall, through our PE Curriculum, we teach the children key skills to help them believe in themselves as sporting athletes. We also teach healthy participation by regularly attending sporting competitions outside school that link closely to our curriculum, helping the children to believe in themselves when participating. We provide a range of activities to introduce our children to new experiences; give them opportunities to be active together; improve on individual skills; learn how to use rules, strategies and  tactics to ultimately enhance these learnt skills and believe in their abilities.

Here at Studfall Junior Academy, children of all abilities will have the opportunity to  participate in a variety of sporting competitions within each academic year, varying from competition based to broadening participation (developing skills). Since our curriculum is linked closely to our sporting calendar, children will learn the main skills to successfully compete in competitions with self-belief and determination.

At Studfall, our inclusive curriculum ensures all children can achieve and be successful in each of their PE lessons through adapting and transferring skills between each sport. By children having access to a range of sporting events and competitions allows them to achieve their goals.

  Competitive Sports

Children's experiences in PE are extended by entering competitive games against schools in the Corby, Oundle, Thrapston, Kettering areas.  Studfall have entered many competitions this academic year, this follows our school ethos: nurture, believe, discover, achieve.

As a school, we are required to ensure each child has 30 active minutes per day. The Moki bands are a plain blue band with no screen which track the children's active steps. Each term, each class will have the bands for one week, where they will work as part of a team to try and achieve the highest step count through walking or running. Each term there will be a Moki celebration assembly where there is a chance to win different prizes. The class with the highest step count in each year will win an extra 15 minutes of play time and the child with the highest step count in the school will win an individual prize.
